New Year New Goals

The new year always brings a refreshing start in everyone’s life. With a new year comes the new resolutions. Some of the resolutions are easy to follow while others are too difficult to even start with. The most common resolutions focus on Health, Career, Finances, Relationship, Time-management & Productivity. Apart from these, many of the resolutions are related to other areas like social life, community, networking, travel & education, etc. As it is easy to have the resolutions, but it is equally very difficult to stick to them. These are personal commitments which no one forced you to commit. To follow the mammoth task of sticking to the resolutions you need to have personal accountability to yourself. Following 5 steps can help you win over the new year’s resolutions successfully.

1. Start with an easier one. The most common mistake most of us make is that we start with a very difficult resolution, like Going to the gym every day needs a lot of serious commitment, but many people start very aggressively and within few days or weeks their enthusiasm dies down and they show up on treadmills only once in a month. Another good example to start slow can be to start reading one chapter of a book per day or in one sitting. Saving dollars, a day can lead to a habit of saving ten dollars a day and eventually creating huge savings for the future.

2. Plan your time well. We know that everyone has a similar number of hours per day but some achieve more while others lag behind. Always plan a very reasonable & doable schedule, e.g. doing meditation or going to the gym, initially twice a week and then increasing it gradually on alternate days to a maximum of four or five days in a week in gym or solitude can improve your physical and mental strengths. As it’s said that a repetitive activity becomes a habit. Similarly allocating a fair share of time for an activity is very important to avoid imbalance.

3. Stay motivated. Although it’s the most difficult task to keep alive the fire of desire to achieve more, it can be kept burning with few easy steps of affirmations. Always keep reminding yourself about the purpose of your resolutions, e.g. losing weight to look fit and handsome, reading more books to attain more knowledge and to be ahead of others in your group or class. The rewards of achievement must be big or lucrative enough to kindle the urge to continue the activity. Staying positive about the outcome of every action is one of the most powerful characteristics.

4. Be accountable. Remember that you are the creator of your own destiny, nobody else has time to even look at what you are doing and in which direction you are going. Your strong conviction to be successful can bring very positive results. Whatever begins well, ends well. Plans seldom fail but we often fail to plan. Never be afraid of failures in life. Stay focussed and perform your action towards your resolution with full integrity and ultimate victory will be yours.

5. Review, renew & restart. Every action has a reaction and sometimes the results are not as we had anticipated. That’s the time to review your resolutions and your action plans. Find out where did you miss in carrying out the plan. If needed re-write the plan, modify your resolution to an achievable and measurable one. There’s no harm or shame in starting anew because it’s your very personal resolution to achieve certain goals in that particular year and eventually in life. Your aim is to reach the positive and possible end result. Outline and breakdown your action plans in easily attainable bits. Failures are the essential ingredients of success, if you ever fail or fall, remember you must fail to pass and always fall forward. Renounce your regrets of failures and bounce back to beget victory.

Always stay on track and create records and be a trailblazer in life and your endeavors to consistently follow your resolutions will bring a positive change in your personality. Let’s make this year a truly worth celebrating and Happy New Year.
